II. Intranets as Solutions to Excessive Email: For today's employees, technology has created many things to be thankful for--and many headaches. One of those headaches is excessive amounts of email. Depending on the size of the company an employee works for and the amount of responsibility he/she has, anywhere from hundreds to thousands of email messages must be read and responded to every day.

The company intranet can help! Instead of sending email messages with announcements, instructions, or other information to broad audiences, weekly email newsletters can be used. These newsletters give employees a brief tagline that hints at the information contained in the full article and then provides a link to the intranet, where a site can hold the full articles.

This mode of communication still does the job of getting important news directly to employees' inboxes, but they get just one message per week, instead of a few each day. In addition, it encourages employees to visit the intranet on a regular basis.
