My personality, my solid education background, and my working experience will enable me to take whatever challenges in the future career. I have strong research, writing, and editing skills to develop, organize, write, and revise documents. I am enthusiastic toward work and dedicated to the career.

My life and career have been punctuated by my ardent academic pursuits in fields of English language, linguistics, literature, and technical writing. So far, I had two master’s degrees, one gained in China, one in the United States. Currently, I am pursuing my Ph.D. degree at Illinois State University, majoring in Technical Writing. By May 2000, I will have finished all my course work and internship (for which I am now teaching a 200 level Technical Writing Course in the English Department of Illinois State University, dealing with various case studies, grammar, style, genre analysis, and brochure, poster, and newsletter designing). I am most ready to embark on a new and challenging career by then.

Although I have been at school many years, I am not limited in working experiences. I have taught at the University of International Business of Economics in China for eight years, helping designing the training programs for the people from different enterprises and joint ventures and teaching Business English as well. Ever since I came to the United States, I have taught at the English Language Institute and tutored at the writing center students from different countries, which contributes a lot to my understanding of different cultures. My present teaching of technical writing at ISU greatly reinforces my knowledge in the field of technical writing.

I also worked as an interpreter for some joint ventures in China. In October 1995 I was invited by the Chinese State Council to work as the interpreter for a Chinese Study Group to Canada. The group consisted of mayors and vice-mayors and directors of the Special Economic Zones in China. Sponsored by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), the group toured major cities and visited some of the important enterprises and organization. The tour proved successful for it helped to establish some business relationships between the two countries.

Well-trained in English language, I also did a lot of document translations from Chinese into English, and vice verse. In fact, from 1989 to 1996, I was one of the contributors to a Chinese business newspaper, International Trade, for which I translated many articles from Business News into Chinese.

I have the knowledge, maturity, skills, and abilities to embark on a career as a technical writer and technical editor. I am ready to apply my knowledge and working experiences to the technical communication. I believe, my proficiency in English, both in oral and written communication, my most recent intensive training in technical writing, which includes visual design, better prepare me for my upcoming profession
