Jon Scieszka, in The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales, Illustrated by Lane Smith, presents self-referential text at it's most explicit, and in doing so, lays out the parts of of a picture book. On the first page, below, the reader is introduced to endpapers, the narrator, and the title page. Meanwhile, both characters know they exist only within the book.
